Most swimmers are uninformed about how important googles really are. Some people think they are just water blockers. Which the are but they are more than just water blockers. They can be the one hundredth difference between winning an olympic gold medal or completely missing out on a medal. In fact most swimmers who don’t know their importance to swimmers.
“You don’t need special googles. Just choose some expensive googles and it’ll be all fine. No one needs to spend time looking for googles.”
-Random Average Joe

These are three things I would ask you to consider while finding your next pair of googles. Well that is for competitive swimming. Also if you are purchasing on line make sure you can get a full refund. And if possible try to get an insurance on your googles. You don’t wanna pay more if they break.
Fit
Now fit isn’t exactly dealing with the strap of the googles as most pairs are elastic and are adjustable in size so it’s never really a problem. But I’m talking about the silicon seal that goes in between the lens and your eye. It’s important that it fits your eye socket. If its too late water will get into your eyes. If it’s too small it will damage your eye by either crushing them suctioning on them too much. Also you want to make sure that it is actually sealed. Or if you don’t you would have to compete with water in your eyes. Which most likely will cause you to slow down as you lose your optical senses.
Comfort
Usually Comfort is the easiest to deal with when it comes to googles. The main part is the nose piece. But the majority of googles come with multiple sizes of nosepieces. So typically its not an issue as long as it isn’t digging into your nose. And the other part is the strap. But once again those are adjustable. So you have all the control here. As long as they aren’t too tight but won’t fall off, you are golden in this area!

Vision
Now Vision is one key component here. But now these days it’s easy to find a pair of googles with great vision. Most are now built with UV protection just like sunglasses and most have an anti-fog coating. So really there isn’t much to worry about. But there are different styles of lenses such as clear, mirrored, lilac, and the list could go on and on.
