Workouts that Help with Speed

Now here a few workouts you can do. This is just a nice list of workouts you can do tp improve.

  • First you can do this circuit. It is very common and builds up throughout the circuit.
    • 4 x 100m with a full minute of rest between rounds:
      • No. 1 – Swim 75m at your current steady pace, then 25m FAST!
      • No. 2 – Swim 50m at your current steady pace, then 50m FAST!
      • No. 3 – Swim 25m at your current steady pace, then 75m FAST!
      • No. 4 – Swim 100m FAST!
  • Next is one that has many names. And it is used by many teams. It helps out with endurance and your overall body strength. Personally I call it a fox trot.
    • You will swim 50m and get out of the pool every time you hit the 50m mark.
    • Every time you get out of the pool you will have to do a certain amount of exercises such as push ups, sit ups, mountain climbers, etc.
    • Now the total amount you actually do varies by coaches decision. But the most common is a 1000m set. This workout is designed to be very intense and difficult.
  • And you could also do the streamline drills where you work on your kicking technique. This will help your kick develop.
A swim team practice.

And lastly there are two more things that can help you out becoming a swimmer. I would recommend going on a diet to get your body in a healthy state. And working out in a weigh room. Get some squats in and dead lift because you will gain lots of important lower body strength. And just stay in shape. Whether its biking, jogging, or swimming build up some endurance.
